We’re committed to helping operators and service providers such as yourself survive and thrive in this over-regulated environment so you’re poised to reap the rewards of your labor in the eventuality of federal cannabis reforms.

The Obstacles are Many but RMCC’s Certification Program has All of the Solutions You Need

  • Regulatory Complexity and the Constantly Shifting Expectations: Cannabis compliance is complex and in the absence of federal regulation, the cannabis industry as we know it today operates as an impossible patchwork of regulatory changes. Our industry has undergone seismic shifts as new states legalize cannabis and attempt to rapidly address the unintended consequences of rules and regulations.

  • The Daunting Task of Interpreting Law, Rules, and Regulations When They Fall Short: Owners, compliance officers, and consultants must be translators capable of navigating the gray area when the language of the laws, rules, and regulations fails to anticipate issues that inevitably arise.  Correctly interpreting a simple “if”, “and”, or “or”, statement within the rules and regulations can mean passing an on-site inspection with flying colors or dealing with violations, fines, or license revocation. It can mean advising a client in a way that builds trust and authority or setting that client up for failure.

  • Taking on Too Many Roles and the Conflicts of Interest That Can Create: When your operational and compliance roles are shared by one department or even one employee, you create an environment where your compliance team doesn’t have the perspective and distance to review, validate, and improve operational workflows in collaboration with your operations team.

  • Lacking Oversight and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to Measure Success: Accountability is key. When your operation lacks SOPs, auditing workflows, oversight, and accountability, you’re setting your team up for confusion in the present and mayhem as errors compound over time. Imagine your compliance officer and operations manager have all of the SOPs they need and a thorough knowledge of your operations workflows but they do not have the KPIs they need to measure success. All of that hard work invested in building compliant workflows and related documentation is wasted unless your managers can assess their teams performance and address issues in real-time using the right KPIs. The whole company is exposed to unnecessary risk.

  • Failing to Implement an Effective Training Framework: Take a hard look at your company's training program. Regardless of whether you deliver the training yourself or work with partners like RMCC, without an effective training plan, you risk high employee turnover, employees executing outdated workflows leading to regulatory violations, and ultimately, a lack of accountability. Often, the task of developing internal training falls on the shoulders of compliance and operational managers who are already drowning under the weight of their immense responsibilities. These individuals likely do not have the time, the tools, or the skill set to author, implement, and lead an executable, repeatable, and measurable training plan.

Let me show you how to gain confidence in your compliance skills, be proactive and prepared in audits and inspections, and make more money. BriAnne’s story is a great example of how you can start at the bottom and achieve success.

In 2014, our CEO was just like you. BriAnne had just moved across the country to pursue her love for cannabis. Colorado just legalized cannabis for adult-use and BriAnne was hungry to learn, passionate about compliance, and committed to doing her job effectively and within the bounds of the rules and regulations. But, she didn’t have any of the answers she needed to run a successful vertically integrated cannabis business with 20+ licenses. She was building the plane while flying it and the stakes were high.

Building the operational infrastructure from scratch was a grueling process and there was no guru to lead the way. The journey to compliant operational infrastructure was mired with trial and error as regulations and enforcement expectations changed constantly.

She ran a tight ship and while conducting regular reconciles, she uncovered discrepancies between the state-mandated track and trace platform and the point of sale that were not previously known to management. It took analytical, problem solving, and communication skills in order to gain support from management and leadership in addressing these compliance risks.

As BriAnne spent hours upon hours analyzing and reconciling transactions one by one, she gained the insight she needed to find the underlying causes and faulty workflows that led to the discrepancies.

BriAnne’s hard work and meticulousness through this process exposed a huge, company-wide compliance risk and highlighted the need to build operational safeguards. Ownership was left with a sense of shock at the extent of the identified risks. They were forced to scramble to gain transparency into their inventory and to implement strong inventory control workflows in order to avoid expensive regulatory violations and license revocation.

BriAnne kept working steadfast to close those gaps and prevent the same mistakes from reoccurring. With the trust and recognition she gained through her diligent and solution-oriented approach, management promoted her to full-time Inventory Compliance Auditor, a new, sorely needed ole, that did not exist previously at this company. Within months, BriAnne quickly excelled into a leadership position as Director of Inventory and Compliance.

Thriving in her new role, BriAnne, now had the tools she needed to develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), standardize all inventory data, create reconcile schedules, and get all of the employees on the same page. Within a few months of making data-driven decisions, BriAnne was able to bring in an additional $250,000 in profits between the multiple locations she was overseeing.

Later, BriAnne moved on to Flowhub serving as their Compliance Officer. Building upon her operational experience in a leadership role, this new role overseeing compliance on a nationwide scale provided valuable insight into the regulatory obstacles facing operators across the United States. After connecting the dots between compliance, operations, and technology, BriAnne found her niche in the wider cannabis industry. Her mission moving forward was to transfer that knowledge to others who needed support building their businesses in an effort to strengthen the cannabis community she loves.

While the journey led her where she is today, it was a stress-filled and time-consuming endeavor. BriAnne was eventually able to find the patterns in the data, but it wasn’t easy. Her very first audit took 300+ hours trying to figure everything out on her own for just one license.

Don’t put your staff through this same stressful and expensive process when you can save hundreds of hours of labor by signing up for RMCC’s certification program

Wouldn’t it be nice to avoid the same trial and error BriAnne had to battle with?
